Myna Text Tools has no server, no account, and no analytics. Nothing it handles is transmitted anywhere, sold, or shared with anyone. Everything stays on your own computer.
What the extension handles
Chrome asks developers to declare the kinds of data an extension works with, including data that never leaves your device. Two kinds apply here.
Text you save as snippets. Whatever you choose to put in a snippet — a VAT number, an office address, a stock reply — is stored on your own machine using Chrome’s local storage. Some of that may be personal information, depending on what you save. It is stored so that you can copy it again later. It is not sent anywhere, and it is deleted when you delete the snippet or uninstall the extension.
Text you select on a web page. When you press Count what’s selected on the page, the extension reads the text you have selected in that tab so it can count the words and characters. That text is held only while the popup is open, is never written to storage, and is never transmitted. Nothing else on the page is read.
What it does not handle
- No browsing history. The extension does not record which pages you visit.
- No clicks, keystrokes, scrolling, or any other activity tracking.
- No location data.
- No health, financial, or payment information.
- No passwords or login credentials.
When it reads a page
The extension has no standing access to any website. It requests no host permissions, so it cannot read pages in the background or while you are not using it. It reads a page in exactly one circumstance: when you press Count what’s selected on the page, on the tab you are looking at, at that moment.
Also stored
Which of the three tabs you last used, so the popup opens where you left it. That is the only other thing kept.
Exported files
If you export your snippets, a JSON file is saved to your downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded as part of exporting. That file contains the full text of every snippet in it, so take the same care sharing it that you would with the snippets themselves.
A note on sensitive text
Snippets are stored as plain, unencrypted text, in the same way as most browser data. That is fine for a VAT number or an office address. It is not a password manager, and it is not a suitable place for passwords, API keys, or anything else that would cause harm if someone with access to your computer read it.
Third parties
There are none. No data is shared with any third party, because no data leaves your device. Nothing is sold or transferred to anyone, and nothing is used to assess creditworthiness or for lending.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address and the date at the top will change.
